Not Everyone Is Ready to Walk With You
Updated: 1 day ago

One of the lessons life has taught me is that everyone is not ready to move along with you.
Sometimes we reach a place in our lives where something inside us begins to change. We start questioning what we once accepted. We begin seeing ourselves, our relationships, and our experiences differently.
And when that happens, we may naturally want the people we love to see what we are beginning to see.
We may explain.
We may encourage.
We may share what we have learned.
We may hope that they will come with us.
But we cannot walk another person’s journey for them.
People who are determined to remain in their stories cannot always be reached until they are ready to acknowledge their own truths.
That realization can be painful.
Especially when we love someone.
Sometimes we confuse loving someone with carrying them.
We may believe that if we try hard enough, explain enough, give enough, or sacrifice enough, we can help someone become ready.
But self-sacrifice was never necessary.
We can love someone without losing ourselves in their journey.
We can care without carrying what belongs to someone else.
We can offer a hand without forcing someone to take it.
And sometimes moving forward means allowing another person to walk their own path while we continue to walk ours.
This doesn’t mean closing our hearts.
It means learning where our responsibility ends and another person’s journey begins.
There is freedom in understanding that we don’t have to convince someone to see what we have learned to see.
We can simply continue becoming who we are.
Perhaps that is one of the hardest forms of self-love:
allowing people to be where they are while giving ourselves permission to keep moving.
Everyone has their own timing. Everyone has their own path. And sometimes the most loving thing we can do is honor both.
